The legendary Renault R5 is making a stunning comeback—though not in the form anyone expected. Renault has officially opened reservations for its R5 Turbo 3E, an all-electric powerhouse that shares little more than a name and a few stylistic nods with the classic R5. Beneath its retro-inspired shell lies a modern-day pocket supercar designed for collectors and thrill-seekers alike.

A Spec Sheet That Defies Expectations

The R5 Turbo 3E turns conventional thinking about electric city cars on its head. It’s equipped with two rear-mounted wheel motors that produce a combined output of 540 horsepower—more than a Porsche 911 GT3. Thanks to this configuration, the compact French racer can go from 0 to 100 km/h (0–62 mph) in under 3.5 seconds, firmly positioning it among elite supercars.

This radical engineering helps explain the vehicle’s steep price tag. Renault isn’t taking a traditional approach with this launch. Instead, the company is implementing a unique acquisition model that reflects the car’s exclusivity:

• An initial deposit of €50,000 is required at the time of reservation—an “upfront funding” strategy rarely seen in the mass automotive market.

• Personalization of the vehicle will begin in early 2026.

• Orders will be finalized in 2027.

Personalization options are just as unique as the car itself. Buyers will have the opportunity to select their individual vehicle number (for an additional fee) and choose from historical paint schemes that pay tribute to iconic R5 models of the past. Among them is the black, yellow, and white livery inspired by the R5 Turbo that claimed victory in the 1982 Tour de Corse.
