Louis Edward Chapman was born in Herring, Oklahoma on May 7, 1934. He was the son of John and Pearl Chapman. He passed from this life on July 30, 2016 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years and 2 months.
Louis went to grade school at Herring and graduated from Hammon High School in 1952. He attended Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater then volunteered for the Armed Services in 1955.
Louis was married to Helen Marlene Miller on September 12, 1954. To this union three children were born, Helen Renee, Cynthia Lou, and Lowell Louis. Louis completed basic training in Ft. Ord, California, then was deployed overseas to Berlin, Germany. There he was inducted into the 287th Military Police Horse Platoon Company. While serving he trained horses for competition in dressage, jumping and riot control. He competed in jumping competition horse shows in Germany, England, France, Italy and Spain. In one of the competitions, Louis won the coveted German Bronze Medal. Louis was then sent to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas where he was honorably discharged in December 1956. He then returned to Herring, Oklahoma to partner with his father on the Herring Ranch. He retired in 1995. Louis was a member of the Cheyenne Masonic Lodge #133 and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl; daughter Cindy and sister, Betty Parks. He is survived by his wife, Marlene, of the home; daughter, Renee Beaty and husband Bill of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; son, Lowell of Herring, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Moler and wife Twila of Hammon, Oklahoma; Carey Drake and husband Casey of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Casey Beaty of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Rosie Uribe of Clinton, Oklahoma; Jake Sadler of Durham, Oklahoma; Clay Sadler; Wacey Chapman and wife Kylee of Elk City, Oklahoma; Taylor Beaty of Weatherford, Oklahoma; and Cale Chapman of Edmond, Oklahoma; 11 great grandchildren; a special daughter, Dana White and husband David; and sister, Joan Wood and husband Lewis of Rocky, Oklahoma.
Service will be Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Martin Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma, at 10:00am, officiated by Andy Taylor. Interment will be a Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
