After reading the article about the settlement of the DHS lawsuit concerning the death of a 5-yearold little girl by her father, I was heartbroken. It seems the judge did not receive the information about the father’s abuse of his daughter, so they placed the little girl in his care. I am not writing to condemn or defend DHS in this case. Child welfare does not deal with cookie cutter cases. The caseworkers and judges I have worked with as a CASA volunteer have been tireless workers for the best interests of the children in their cases. I admire them for doing a difficult, thankless job.
