James Everette Porter was born December 17, 1955, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to J T and Evelyn (Robinson) Porter. He passed away April 25, 2019 in his home at Reydon, Oklahoma at the age of 63 years, 4 months, and 8 days.
James grew up in Reydon and attended Reydon Schools. He was active in 4-H, where he participated in many livestock shows and 4-H activities. He married Diann Griffin on January 19, 1976 and they made their home in the Reydon community. James worked in the oilfield for many years and also farmed and ranched. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many trips to area lakes to camp and fish with his family. In his youth, James also enjoyed water skiing and spending time at the lake. James and Diann had two children, Joey James and Stephen Franklin Porter.
James is preceded in death by his father; his mother; his grandparents, John Alva and Maggie (Rizley) Porter and Orville and Dora Mae (Abbott) Robison; his nephew, Tony Porter; nephew, Jeff Sizemore; his brother-in-law, Wilbur Roane, a sister-in-law, Marvella Thomason.
He is survived by his wife, Diann, of the home; two sons, Joey Porter and wife, Mindy of Reydon, and Stephen “Junior” Porter and wife, Ashley, of Reydon; sister, Shirley Roane of Porter, Texas; a brother, Billy Porter and wife, Donna, of Reydon; 10 grandchildren, Katy Porter, Jessi Porter, Bailey Porter, Taylor Porter, Thomas Craft, Andres Vidana, Jordan Vaughn, Mark James and Adalynn Porter, all of Reydon; sisters-in-law, Shirley Dyer of Reydon; brother-in-law, Steve Griffin and wife, Linda, of Sayre; sister-in-law, Sonya Blagg and husband, Michael, of Sayre; and brothers-in-law, Roger Blackshear and Marcus Musick of Elk City; nieces and nephews, Hope and Gina Porter, Lisa and Jeremy Roane, Mitsy and Brandee Thomason, Zachary Sandoval, Shelby, Randall and Brian Blagg, Destin and Dayton Blackshear and Sunny Flannery and a host of aunts, uncles and several other relatives and friends.
Services were held Monday, April 29, 2019, 2:00 PM at the Reydon Church of Christ with Chuck Milner officiating. Burial was at the White Rose Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
