Part 92 After hearing the church’s teachings on marriage, divorce, and remarriage, one individual asks, “If baptism washes away all sins even those who have been divorced and remarried for reasons other than ‘fornication’ as mentioned in Matthew 19:9, then can the couple remain married because their sins have been washed away?” This is a good question and one that no doubt applies to several people considering their salvation in Christ. Firstly, there is no “if baptism washes away all sins” because baptism does wash away all sins to those who follow the biblical prerequisites, and only through the process that leads to baptism can one be saved (Acts 22:16; 1 Peter 3:21). Every conversion story in the book of Acts involves certain actions to be taken before baptism washes away sins.
