The Roger Mills County Genealogy Society met at 2:00 on March 2, 2017 in the Cheyenne Library for their monthly meeting. President Marilyn Wilson called the meeting to order, Secretary Doris Minor read the minutes and Treasurer Allen Atha gave a report. There were several topics of discussion: the genealogy entry in the Old Settlers’ Parade was discussed; Update on the Fencing of the Finley Cemetery was presented; The 1940 Federal Census microfilm for Roger Mills County has arrived; Lu Eisler presented some books to the genealogy society shelves; obituaries were filed and we enlisted three new members. Within the last year, Dale Tracy has discovered the Germanna Research Group that has traced German families back to early 1700s when they fled Germany for religious and political freedoms. For his program he had found his 7th GGrandparents, Jacob and Susan Crigler, who were among a group of twenty families who endured starvation and physical hardships to arrive in Virginia. After a period of indentured servitude, the governor moved the Germanna Colony to the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains where they served as a buffer between the Indians and the settlements on the coast.
