Calvin Ray Denney, 83 year old resident of Leedey, Oklahoma, passed from this life November 30, 2016 in Elk City, Oklahoma. He was born March 28, 1933 to George and Effie (Gray) Denney in Leedey. Calvin grew up in Leedey and attended Leedey Public School and graduated from there. After graduating he lived in Eugene, Oregon for a short time.
Calvin joined the United Sates Navy on June 13, 1951 and he received an Honorable Discharge on June 9, 1955. His highest rank was Boiler Fireman USN-1. Calvin received the Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was proud to serve his country.
On January 11, 2000 Calvin married Mary Evelyn Pickens at the William Memorial Church of Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma. They lived in Warr Acres, Oklahoma before moving back to Leedey. Calvin worked and owned his own machine shop in Leedey. He enjoyed anything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Calvin was a member of the American Legion and the Red Star Church in Leedey. He was baptized at the William Memorial Church of Nazarene in Bethany and was currently attending the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Hammon, Oklahoma.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, George and Effie Denney, daughter Suzzann Axtell, and sister Hazel Ferslew. Calvin is survived by his wife Mary Denney of Leedey, Oklahoma; daughters Linda Deskin and husband Leon of Minco, Oklahoma, and Teresa Freeman and husband Allen of Killeen, Texas; son Mike Burch of Leedey, Oklahoma; brother Otis Denney of Dinuba, California, and a host of grandchildren, other family members and friends.
Services were held Saturday December 3, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Hammon, OK with burial following at the Bethany Cemetery, Bethany, OK. Condolences may be made to the family at shawfuneralhome.net. Shaw Funeral Home at Leedey
