In 1997, I received a call from a neighbor and friend, stating that we should try to form a volunteer fire department in Strong City. He made some more calls and six of us came together to form the Strong City Volunteer Fire Department. We started out with only a ¾-ton Dodge pickup with a poly tank and pump. We didn’t have a building and used hand-me-down gear from other departments. Through the years we built our station then added on to it. We acquired four, 1-ton brush pumpers, s deuce brush pumper, and a 4000-gallon tanker. We have added and lost members, but at the time of this writing, we are up to 16 firefighters. We have been blessed to be in a very supportive country with a great Sheriff Department that dispatches for us. Our county is made up of all volunteer fire departments and each one supports the others in time of need.
