William Donald Smith (Windy) went to his heavenly home peacefully surrounded by loved ones March 4th, 2018.

Bill was born in Leedey, OK to Clarence and Ora Pearl Smith on August 8th, 1930. After graduating from Leedey High school and a brief period at Southwestern State University in Weatherford, OK, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948. He served with the 5th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Travis AFB in California. After his honorable discharge in 1952 he then attended and graduated from Oklahoma City University with a BS Degree in Business.

In 1958, Bill married Eleanore Gay Griffin in Ponca City, OK, enjoying 59 plus years together. They added to their family with 3 sons: Jeffrey Donald Smith, Eric Dewayne Smith and David Todd Smith. After college, Bill worked as a Marketing Representative for Cities Service Oil Company and later, Continental Oil Company. In 1968, Bill and his family returned to his home town of Leedey where he purchased and operated Smith Grocery and later, Bill Smith Oil Company. Upon his retirement from their business, he was employed as a bookkeeper for Dewey County District 1 until his later retirement. Bill also served on the Leedey Fire Department and Leedey Town Board and later as it’s Mayor.

Bill was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed adding to all the Bedlam talk with his OSU friends, playing golf and dominoes, but most importantly, the interaction and storytelling with his friends & family.

Bill was preceded in death by parents Clarence and Ora Pearl Smith(Yount); brother Arthur( Shorty) Smith and sister Hazel (Smith) Bright.

Bill is survived by wife Eleanore; sons Jeffrey & wife Tina, Eric & wife Stephanie and David & wife Candice; 7 grandchildren; AJ, Michael, Kristen, Megan, Kevin, Hunter & Mackenzie and great grandchild; Jozlynn.

Eleanore and the boys want to express their love and admiration to Eleanore’s sister, Patty Henderson for her tireless help over the last few weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leedey EMT & Fire Department or the Leedey Clinic in care of Shaw Funeral Home.

Services were held Thursday March 8, 2018 at 1:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church, Leedey, Oklahoma with burial at New Hermon Cemetery, Leedey, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family at shawfuneralhome.net.
