But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Tim 5:8

This is a strong declaration as Paul instructs Timothy in the affairs and matters of the church. I’ve seen this verse taken out of context many times. One of the more serious infractions for any serious Bible student is to take scripture out of context to make a point. It happens all the time and those who do it are not doing anyone any favors. The above verse is directly in the middle of Paul giving Timothy instructions in how to handle, and take care of widows. It appears to me that this particular verse is saying that if the head of the household, the patriarch if you will, doesn’t see to it that the widows in his family circle are taken care of that he is not fulfilling his family, and spiritual duties as he should.
