“Let as many bondservants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed.” 1 Tim 6:1-2
To understand what Paul is telling Timothy here one must first become acquainted with the term, ‘bondservant’. In the first century, and especially in Ephesus where Timothy resided slavery was a very common thing. A large segment of the population were slaves. In fact, if you study the book of Ephesians you’ll see that one of Paul’s great challenges was to communicate and then convince the Ephesians, who were mostly slaves, that even considering their adverse conditions they were still rich in the things of Christ.
