Quite a unique and thoughtful question was asked recently about instrumental music in worship. It was asked, “Do those who speak Greek and use Greek Bibles in the church today use instruments in worship?” The person was implying the Greek Orthodox Churches in Greece. No doubt the Greek language has evolved since the first century. However, those who speak Greek fluently might have some insight into the Greek words used in the Bible, such as the word psallo translated “making melody” in Ephesians 5:19, which has prompted several debates through the years. I did not immediately know the answer, so I asked the person to give me some time to research.
