Part 138 It was asked, “Is forsaking the assembly grounds for church discipline?” The person asking is making reference to Hebrews 10:25: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Church discipline is a modern term used for those who are unfaithful members of the church to which God has commanded the faithful members to “have no company with him, that he may be ashamed” (2 Thess. 3:14). Essentially, church discipline is to withdraw and have no fellowship with those who refuse to repent of their wickedness and may be leading others astray in the process (Rom. 16:17,18; 1 Cor. 5:5,11-13). The biblical terminology may be harsh and may sound unloving, but the commands are of God, and they must be obeyed as God would have the church to execute them (2 Thess. 3:15; Matt. 18:15-17).
