The House on Monday night passed an education budget that gives first year teachers a $5,000 pay raise beginning next school year and teachers with 25 years of experience and a doctorate an $8,300 pay raise. It also gives additional dollars to schools, including the restoration of $33 million for textbooks. The plan also gives support staff and state employees a pay raise of $1,200. State employees will receive a raise based on seniority up to $2000.
